House of Time • Queen of Parnassus (HVG)

Sunday, November 2, 2025 - 3:00 PM EDT

Elizabeth Jacquet de la Guerre

House of Time is joined by viola da gamba virtuoso Adam Young for a program that shines a light on works by one of the king’s favorite musicians, a child prodigy when she first moved to court. The refinement and elegance of Versailles comes through vividly in Elisabeth Jacquet’s gorgeous sonatas and trios. Also included is one of Rameau’s earliest masterpieces, the “Piece de clavecin en concert” in C minor, a work that treats the harpsichord and viola da gamba in dramatically inventive ways.

ARTEK • Mozart and Woman of Genius

Feb 20, 2026 - Feb 21, 2026

Mozart violin sonatas with Enrico Gatti and Gwendolyn Toth

Mozart’s most famous violin sonata in B-flat, K 454 was written for the Italian virtuosa, Regina Strinasacchi, who famously received the part only the night before the performance. Leopold Mozart said of her: “Her whole heart and soul is in the melody she delivers, and her power and beauty of tone are equally remarkable. I believe, as a rule, that a woman of genius plays with more expression than a man.”

Enrico Gatti, violin and Gwendolyn Toth, fortepiano play the Sonata in B-flat and other chamber works by Mozart.

Abendmusik • Adieu mes amours

Thursday, March 5, 2026 - 7:30 PM EDT

Harmonice Musices Odhecaton

Abendmusik Consort of Viols explores the Franco-Flemish influence represented in the Harmonice Musices Odhecaton (One Hundred Songs of Harmonic Music). Published in Venice in 1501 by Octaviano Petrucci, The Odhecaton is the earliest known publication of polyphonic music using moveable type. The pieces exist originally as vocal works, however in The Odhecaton the text is not underlayed, lending speculation that these pieces were intended to be played by an instrumental ensemble. The composers represented include Johannes Ockeghem, Josquin des Prez, Antoine Brumel, Antoine Busnois, Alexander Agricola, Jacob Obrecht, and Hayne van Ghizeghem, along with several anonymous works.
